The Sacrament of Baptism
Congratulations on the birth of your child! We are happy for you! We provide these guidelines as you prepare to have your child baptized.
If you are looking to have your child baptized at St. Matthew Parish, you need to be a member here or have permission from the parish you belong to as your child is baptized into the Roman Catholic family.
Baptisms here are generally on the third weekend of the month, but we are flexible if it helps your families. We have baptismal prep couples to assist in a baptismal “class” if this is your first child, but also these couples help at all baptisms if they are available. If not, the priest or deacon who is doing the baptism will be the one who assists you.
The schedule for the baptismal class can be found here: Baptism Dates & Class Times 2020
To schedule a baptism you would call the office at least a month ahead so we have your completed Baptism Registration Form and make sure the requested date does not conflict with other parish events. A stipend of $15 is paid to the parish, which will go to Love Life, a charitable organization that helps needy families with young children.
The baptism can take place during the Mass or after Mass depending on the wish of your family. If during Mass the first part of the ceremony is held in our day chapel fifteen minutes before the Mass.
Concerning the two godparents you choose for your child, we ask that one of the godparents is a confirmed Roman Catholic, as one of the godparents’ role is passing on the Roman Catholic faith to your child.
So again we congratulate you and look forward to the baptism of your child. If you have any questions please contact Ann Dabeck at the parish office, 920-435-6811 or email [email protected]
