St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter

Meals for the Shelter
Put together a team of family or friends and make a plan to cook for the guests at St. John’s!

This year St. Matthew is committing to provide meals for the guests at St. John the Evangelist Shelter. Over the last several years we have committed to providing volunteers for Sunday evenings at the shelter, but for many of our members volunteering in these COVID times is a health risk.

We are hoping that providing meals may provide us an option to support the shelter as a faith community. We have committed to provide 2 Sunday night meals per month, but strongly encourage people to do other dates as well.

We will begin by cooking for 60 guests, though that number will rise as the winter settles in and more people seek shelter.

Meals must be delivered hot and ready to serve at 5:15 on the evening you are providing the meal. To sign up to cook for a night on behalf of the parish, please contact Mike Westenberg, mwestenberg@stmattsgb.org or 435-6811.

Wellspring – Empowering Women

“I felt welcome right away at Wellspring, and it didn’t seem to matter to the others that I was new. It’s nice to have someone to talk with and friends to keep you busy.” – Anita, Wellspring client

Wellspring is a daytime resource center just for women in the heart of downtown Green Bay. The center provides a peaceful, caring place to connect with other women who are facing similar issues and difficulties, especially when their lives get very challenging. For many women in transition, Wellspring serves as another family, a place to belong, a friend away from home – with programming focusing on mind, body and spirit.

Wellspring serves more than 300 women who visit more than 4,200 times a year seeking peer support, personal growth opportunities, resources and referrals. We welcome any woman who is at least 18 years old. The center is open from Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
