St. Vincent de Paul Society

Summary of 2009 fiscal year:

St. Matthew's St. Vincent DePaul Conference was able to help thirty families this past fiscal year (October 1, 2008 - September 31,2009). This included five students from NWTC and one from Rasmussen who received scholarships totaling $2388 from SVDP District education fund. Our income comes from two sources: donations at the Holy Thursday and Thanksgiving masses at St. Matthews and a monthly stipend from Green Bay St. Vincent DePaul District. The funds from the District are generated by the St. Vincent DePaul store-So please continue donating items and shop at the store for some excellent bargains. People were helped with rent, utilities, transportation, store vouchers for furniture, household items, and clothes. Gifts are given at Easter and Christmas to needy families. A fund has been set up at the parish center in partnership with Justice & Human Concerns for those who stop asking for mainly transportation assistance. We also share our resources by donating a $100 a month to parishes/organizations outside the city / state that have more needs then resources.

Thank you for the donation of $740.74 at Thanksgiving Mass. It will allow us to continue the work of giving people a hand when things have gone wrong in their lives. A special thanks to school families who donated an abundance of food items and other parish members who gave over Advent.  Nineteen boxes containing food, toilet paper, and soaps were distributed at Christmas.

In addition St. Matthew's parishioners volunteered at various capacities at St. Vincent De Paul Store for a total of 2835.5 hours in 2009 fiscal year

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a world-wide lay organization founded in Paris in 1833 by Fredric Ozanam. The Society offers tangible aid to those in need, plus spiritual services through person-to-person contact and prayer. There are eighteen conferences in various area parishes which serve the needy in their local neighborhoods. Monies for outreach come from the proceeds of the St. Vincent de Paul Store and donations. SVdP is a unique community resource because it provides emergency help to people who fall through the cracks. Some of the services offered include: Food (Parish pantries, Paul's Pantry referral), Shelter (House of Hope, vouchers for rent), Clothing & Household items (Vouchers for SVdP store), Emergency services (utilities, medical assistance, transportation vouchers), Education (vouchers for secondary school tuition) and referrals to Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, or government programs. Call the parish center (435-6811) who will put in touch with a SVdP member or go the the Personal Service Center (432-2579) if you are in need of help.

SVdP store offers volunteers many varieties of jobs and is always in need of help. Take a step for the poor and consider sorting / pricing of donated items, computer repairs, cashier / bagging, selling furniture, working in carpenter shop or Personal Service Center. The nice thing about volunteering is you can choose your own hours. Call Store Manager at 435-4040 for more information. To become involved or learn more about the St. Matthew Conference call Claire at 432-3556.

The store welcomes all kinds of unwanted household items to sell in the store. These donations are essential to our existance. Please remember us when "cleaning house". Call 432-2579 for pick-up of donated furniture.
