Heart, Mind and Soul...

Our gospel reading from Matthew 22:34-40 describes the two great commandments: 1) You should love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul and 2) love your neighbor as yourself.

These commandments are a challenge for us individually and especially within the context of our marriage relationship. By practicing the first commandment (Love God - with everything you have), it assists us in practicing the second, especially with our spouse.

When I (Wayne) am in right relationship with God, I put everything in a perspective beyond myself (and my selfishness). I am able to listen to my wife better, see the things that I know she would appreciate me doing (especially housework), and I am willing to share my deepest thoughts, feelings and dreams.

As Bishop Banks said in his homily today we need to do three things to live out these commandments: 1) create good habits (pray and listen to God), 2) make time for your spouse (don't say "I'm too busy"), and 3) say "I'm sorry" (practice forgiveness).

Let us live out these commandments and bring true love to our spouse this week!
