Choose wisely...

One of my (Wayne) favorite readings from Paul's letters is from Philippians 2. It was our second reading today in the longer form (2:1-11) and the latter portion (2:6-11) was used during the Passion Sunday readings during Lent this year.  The following is from verses 4-5...

"Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory;
rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves,
each looking out not for his own interests,
but also for those of others."

When I reflect on this reading, I cannot help but think that this is a perfect challenge for me as a husband and for Jolene, as my wife.  Marriages are truly fertile when each of us considers, thinks about and then acts with our partner's best interests in mind.  This task is not easy but it is our challenge as we continue our journey together.  It is the grace of God that helps us put our spouse ahead of our natural self-centered way of life.

During each week, there are many times we can choose the self-centered path or the path of our spouse's best interest.  May God help us recognize these opportunities and help us choose wisely.
