Litmus Test

Articles about how to tell if a relationship will last are abundant in our marriage magazine that we read. The latest article, Engaged: Will This Relationship Last?  gives a short list, and I was reading it to our son, David, who is dating a lovely girl right now. The list...

  • When you pick up your date, unlock her door first and let them get in. If they lean over and unlock your door, they're a keeper!
  • Take an airplane trip with them...if you can fly somewhere without killing each other, you're definately compatible.
  • Go camping together...this involves driving, tent building, cooking, dirt, bugs, etc...and learning what the other can do without.

I was amused at the list. If Wayne had taken me camping when we were dating, he wouldn't have married me!!(I like hotels) David, of course, pointed out that two of those cost a bunch money, and I wouldn't want him traveling anywhere but a movie with Meghan right now...BUT...The one that caught my eye was the car door. This is lost now because of auto door unlockers, but when I was dating, I always used to lean over and unlock the other door. One of our cars is still archaic, with automatic nothing! I told David the next time he takes his lovely girlfriend on a date, put her to the test and see if she unlocks her door!

What would you add to this list? (We would love to hear your answers... wwichlacz@new.rr.com)
