In keeping with last week's blog of one word titles, I have come up with "seeds" to describe today's entry.
Our gospel reading from Matthew 13 tells 2 stories of seeds and one of yeast. I personally like the mustard seed story the best because it has a great message when compared with the seed that was our marriage vows said to one another (for us 24 years ago). The mustard seed is the smallest seed but grows into a very large plant where "the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches".
As I thought about this, when I proclaimed my marriage vows to Jolene and she to me, we were planting a seed (like the mustard seed) that was very small when we look backwards at it. When looking back at 24 years of experiences or 6,360+ days ago, our vows seem like a very tiny seed but have grown as we, our marriage and our family has grown. Our branches have spread to many different people in California and Wisconsin as we have lived our lives together. Some of these experiences have been heavenly and others have had to be pruned, but our plant (our marriage) continues to grow and evolve.
This week, thank God for your marriage and your marriage vow commitment and think about how your marriage has blossomed into your own mustard plant.
