Going a little farther?

Sunday, I completed the Green Bay Half Marathon in the very windy and cool conditions. I was linked to my beloved, Jolene, with the technology text messages that appeared on her cell phone at 5, 10, 12 and my finish as I crossed the mats at each location. On Monday, I found out that the course was actually a little longer than the 13.1 miles that is promised for the official Half Marathon distance.

I recognized this after the race but during, I had no clue that I was going farther than I should have gone.

I think that this is a good statement for our life and our marriage relationships. In the midst of our every day life, there are many instances where we go a little farther (good acts that we perform, prayers and thoughts that we have about our spouse and others, acts of kindness that we perform). We never really think about these things (sometimes ever) except if we pause "post-run" to reflect on them.  These are critical actions in our prayer life (pausing and reflecting).

As I did not even recognize the extra distance of the Half Marathon, let us live life "going farther" in the opportunities that are given to us each day and spend some time with God being thankful for our gifts that we shared at the end of each day!
