Power Phrases

Today we were reading an article in Marriage Magazine about using Power Phrases in marriage. A power phrase is really just a brief show of love and attention that makes the other person know you care. Do you use any of these phrases?

  • "Anything wrong?...You seem preoccupied. Are you?"
  • "You seem tired. Can I get you anything?"
  • "You look handsome in that suit!"
  • "I love it when you laugh like that..."
  • "What ideas do you have about_______?"

All of these phrases show your partner that you care about them and make your partner feel needed and valued. Even ordinary conversations can be spiced up with a power phrase now and then. If you ask, "What's the weather like today?" wouldn't it be fun to hear something like, "Hot, you sexy thing! And getting hotter!" (Our kids laughed out loud when we shared that one!)
