Ministries
MINISTRY AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
There are a plethora of ways to be involved in the life
of the community at St. Matthew Parish. Here are just some of them.
Many of the opportunities require training, which is provided. We look
forward to you building up our community through sharing your gifts.

Greeters
Ministers of hospitality welcome those who come to celebrate the Eucharist
with a smile, handshake, and kind word.
Lectors
Ministers of the word proclaim the first and second readings, and lead the
prayer of the faithful.
Ushers
Serving those who enter for Worship by finding seating, assisting those who
require aid, collecting the offertory contributions, and directing the people
during communion.
Organist/Other Instruments
Provide music and accompany the choirs during mass and special liturgies.
Eucharistic Ministers
Distribute the sacred body and blood of our Lord during the masses.
Altar Servers
Males and females who assist the priest and the assembly at masses and special
worship services.
Song Leaders (Cantors)
Lead the assembly in sung prayer during mass and other liturgical events.
Choir
Leads assembly in song at masses and special liturgies.
Choral Praise—Sings at most 8:30 masses on Sundays.
Instruments of Peace—Sings at most 10:30 masses on Sunday and an occasional
4:30 Saturday mass.
Funeral Choir—Features men and women from St. Matthew and Resurrection
Parishes.
Joyful Noise Choir—Sings 2 or 3
times each month. Utilizes a variety of instruments.
Liturgy of the Word with Children
Children experience the Liturgy of the Word in a version designed
for children’s
understanding and participation.
Meals Ministry
Prepare a simple meal to assist a family in time of special need or to welcome
a new parishioner.
Elizabeth Ministry
Women visit on behalf of the parish to celebrate pregnancy, birth and adoption;
to offer support to mothers, grandparents, families.
Elizabeth Ministry Prayer Partner
Be paired with an Elizabeth Minister and pray for her and the families she
visits.
Prayer Tree
Become part of a prayer network and pray over special intentions that have
been presented.
Coffee and Rolls
Serve coffee, rolls and juice to parishioners after 8:30 a.m. mass.
Nursery Work
Provide childcare during the 10:30 mass
.
Scrip
Volunteers are needed for distribution, accounting, sales or promotion.
School Help
Hot Lunch Servers—help serve food and clean up.
School Office Help—assist on short and long-term projects.
Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound
Give the spirit of Christ to homebound people by bringing the Eucharist and
visiting briefly.
St. Vincent de Paul
Help those in financial need. Rely on food/money donations from parishioners.
Stephen Befrienders
Stephen Befrienders are trained to be listeners offering support to those experiencing
difficult times.
R.C.I.C.
R.C.I.A. Adapted for Children—Be a companion family, or catechist
for children in the initiation process.
Blood Pressure Screening
Volunteers who are experience in nursing or health care, sign
up to offer free blood pressure screening after mass times.
Religious Ed Teacher/Aide
Teach, share faith and assist students in sacramental preparation.
Religious Ed Prep Help
Assist in material preparation for Religious Education Program.
Vacation Bible School
Teach and share with children in
preschool through fifth grade during a fun filled week long summer program.
High School/Confirmation
Team
Help facilitate and support spiritual preparation of high school students and
Confirmation candidates.
Parish Picnic Volunteers/Coordinators
Help plan, promote or serve in any of the many capacities required to stage
this annual celebration.
R.C.I.A.
Become a faith sponsor, catechist, or hospitality person in the adult initiation
process.
Food Pantry
Volunteer approximately one Wednesday (1-3 p.m.) per month at St. Patrick’s
Food Pantry on behalf of our parish.
Office Bulk Mailings/Stuffing
Bulletins
Help expedite the processing of parish mailing materials, newsletters and filling
of bulletin inserts.
Church Cleaning
Help clean and beautify our church by donating a few hours of time.
Construction/Maintenance
Help bring our grounds to their best in spring and fall. Help paint rooms in
parish buildings when needed.
Artistic Talents/Sewing
Lend your artistic gifts to various areas and activities of the parish. Assist
with different sewing projects such as banners, hangings, etc.
