Christ Renews His Parish

What is CRHP?

The Christ Renews His Parish program is a spiritual retreat and renewal process that has been in existence for over 40 years. It is centered on a renewal weekend and a continuing faith formation period in which participants from the parish explore their faith and spirituality.

What happens during the weekend? Team members presenting the retreat share their personal faith stories. Small group discussions and activities, usually 4-5 people, follow each presentation and address topics of prayer, scripture, personal reflection and Eucharist. You’ll share conversation and thoughts (as much or little as you desire) with others in the parish who are as challenged as you are with the many demands of life presented by families, jobs, society. All conversations shared are confidential.

Some misconceptions about CRHP…...CRHP is NOT:

  • It is not a venue for public confession
  • It is not an exclusive group

CRHP welcomes all parish members from any stage on their faith journeys and their varied perspectives.

When and where do these weekends take place?  The retreats are offered here at St. Matthew Parish in the spring and fall of each year. Separate retreat weekends are offered for men and women. Upcoming retreat weekends are not scheduled at this time.

How long do the weekends last? The weekend begins by 8:00 am on Saturday and will end by early afternoon on Sunday.

Where do I sleep? What about meals? Accommodations are at the school or parish center. Comfortable air mattresses are provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag or bedding and pillow, along with a towel and toiletries. There are no shower facilities. All meals and snacks are provided. Special dietary concerns and sleeping arrangements can be accommodated.

What should I wear? Casual and comfortable clothing is appropriate for both days. “Sunday best” not required!

What is the cost? The weekend is free- free of charge, free of stress, free of responsibilities, free of deadlines and free in spirit! Yes, we do have time for fun too!

What about Mass and Confession? There will be a presentation and discussion on reconciliation, with an opportunity to go to confession. There will also be a Mass with retreat participants during the weekend.

Is there anything required by me after the renewal weekend?  Participants continue their faith formation by becoming members of a new team that plans and facilitates the next retreat. The experience of planning the next retreat, called the formation period, leads to even greater spiritual growth.
